Walking tour of the old town of Cartagena

Visite à pied de la vieille ville de Carthagène

Cartagena is one of the most beautiful cities in Colombia, and it is also one of the oldest. The city was founded in 1533 by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Heredia and has since been ruled by a number of European powers. Today, it has become a popular tourist destination with plenty to see and do.

The best way to explore the old town is to walk through its narrow streets. The main entrance is through the Plaza Santo Domingo, where you will find the 16th century Santa Cruz church and a statue of Pedro de Heredia.

The old town is the historic centre of Cartagena and home to most of its attractions. It is surrounded by thick stone walls that were built in colonial times to protect the city from pirates and other enemies. Today, these walls are still standing (and in good condition!), so you'll feel like you've stepped back in time as you walk through them.

Visit the city of Medellin

Visitez la ville de Medellin

Medellin is the second largest city in Colombia, after Bogota. It is a dynamic city with a rich history, culture and many attractions. Medellin has long been the jewel of Colombia. With a population of 2.6 million, of which almost half a million live in the metropolitan area, this city offers a wide variety of activities and adventure attractions.

Medellin is located in the Aburrá Valley, at an altitude of 2,400 metres. It is one of the most important industrial and commercial centres in Colombia, due to its strategic location on the map and its proximity to major cities like Bogotá, Cartagena de Indias, Cali and Barranquilla.

Medellin is also known for having one of the most innovative transport systems in Latin America: Metrocable. This cable car system connects the poorest areas of Medellin's hills to the city centre, offering residents easy access to jobs and services at prices lower than those offered by private companies.

Visit the Tayrona National Park

Visitez le Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona

The Tayrona National Natural Park is located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range in northern Colombia. The park covers an area of 600 square kilometres, with altitudes ranging from sea level to 3,000 metres above sea level. It has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its biological diversity and cultural value.

The most popular attraction in the park is Playa Grande beach, also known as Tayrona National Park beach. This beautiful beach has white sand and clear waters that are perfect for swimming and snorkelling. It is not uncommon to see dolphins swimming in these waters as well.

Visit the salt cathedral

Visitez la cathédrale de sel

The Salt Cathedral in Zipaquira, Colombia, is a Roman Catholic church made entirely of salt. It is one of the most interesting tourist attractions in South America.

It is located in the city of Zipaquirá, about 25 miles northwest of Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. There are many things to see and do in Zipaquirá, but if you want to take home a souvenir from your trip to this city, then visiting the Salt Cathedral is a must!

The Salt Cathedral was built on top of an old mine that was abandoned long ago due to flooding. The mine was used for centuries by indigenous people for salt extraction. The mine collapsed and flooded during the 18th century. In 1961, a new Catholic church was built on the ruins of this old mine using salt blocks from nearby mines as the main building material.

The cathedral has three floors: the first floor contains an altar, a sacristy and a vestry; while the second floor contains a library full of religious books; finally, at the top, there is an observation deck with beautiful views of the city of Zipaquirá and the surrounding mountains.

Ciudad Perdida

Ciudad Perdida

Ciudad Perdida, or the Lost City, is one of Colombia's most famous tourist attractions. Located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range, it was discovered by a group of archaeologists led by Juan Navarro in 1987. The city dates back to around 800 AD and consists of pyramidal structures, stone streets and mud and clay buildings.

It is believed that the inhabitants of Ciudad Perdida were originally from Tayrona National Park but were forced to move due to attacks from other tribes. They then settled on top of an old indigenous settlement called Zorritos after their chief was killed in battle against another tribe.

The inhabitants were known as the Tairona who lived from agriculture and fishing until they were forced to leave their homes due to attacks from other tribes. They left an incredible legacy that can still be seen today in Ciudad Perdida (the lost city).
