Indeed, in the South of France too, we produce exceptional local and craft beer. And in recent years, various craft breweries have become references not to be missed if you are staying in Provence.

We therefore offer you an overview of the various breweries in the South of France that have caught our eye. We have selected the best brewers in the region to see absolutely if you are a fan of “good beers”.

The 4 local breweries of the South of France for you!

Dégustation des bières

1. The Artisanal Brewery of Provence: BAP!

Located in the heart of Provence, the BAP brewery produces completely organic beers. Thanks to its composition, it only has ingredients from organic farming such as its malt and hops. Indeed, these ingredients are produced without artificial fertilizers in the surroundings of Provence.

The beers of the BAP brewery are also thirst-quenching and slightly cloudy. The reason? Its wheat is partly responsible in its manufacturing process. BAP offers you a “culinary” journey through flavors of citrus fruits, orange peel, coriander, spices that offer you a real experience of the south of France.

In our eyes, this is an essential experience if you are passing through Provence, because these beers promise an immersion in the kingdom of the unequaled local. But, so where to find this brewery? You can visit it not far from the small village of La Cairanne in Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur. Its diversity of manufacturing will make you travel in an ocean of Provençal flavor!

All beers:

The blonde

It all comes down to its hops, which give it a characterful, long and rich taste. In fact, it won the bronze medal at the Brignoles fair in 2019 and is the brewery’s best-selling beer.

The white

The white beer from the BAP brewery is the most thirst-quenching of all. Indeed, it has citrus aromas that give it bitterness, but which give it the title of the sweetest and most comforting beer. To try!

The amber

The amber beer, thanks to its Belgian inspiration, brings out a sweet side thanks to its multiple malt composition. It seduces its fans with its warm and particularly malty side. It won the bronze medal at the agricultural competition of Paris agriculture in 2019.

Location: 26110 Nyons

2. The craft brewery in the south of Marseille, La Minotte!

La Minotte is a craft brewery and is exclusive thanks to its name “La Minotte”, in fact, in Provençal, it means “little girl” which suits it perfectly, because it only brews 800 hL each year. You must therefore go and meet it to have the chance to taste it.

The Minotte brewery is a house that produces ultra local homemade, made by creative people, artisans of taste.

We have selected the few beers brewed by La Minotte that are worth the detour:

The amber

A style all its own, with its caramel nose, it has a rather sweet malty style in the mouth and to finish a touch of clove which makes it a major particularity. A very nice roundness in the association of its flavors as well as a slight controlled bitterness.

The India Pale Ale

The most exotic without doubt! A blend of exotic fruits offering a delicate balance between papaya and lychee. It offers us a very floral nose thanks to its cold hopping.

The Pina Colada

A combination of Pina Colada in a hoppy and malty blend, here is an organic and local beer from a collective of creatives. Both fruity and hoppy that will remind you of your sunny summer even in an autumnal or even winter period.

Many other beers are available at La Minotte which is worth the detour if you are a fan of culinary travel.

Location: 13127 Vitrolles

3. The brewery of La Petite Aixoise, is not small!

Its particularity? It plays on the fermentation process to increase a quality already well present. Indeed, it brews a 100% natural local beer without any artificial additives or synthetic aromas. It therefore increases its fermentation time in order to increase the quality of its craft beers.

She proposes:

•   Traditional craft beers

•   Hoppy craft beers

•   Malty craft beers

•   Ephemeral craft beers

These are beers that are offered according to the
seasons like the “Summer Ale Beer” which is composed of tropical
fruits and white summer fruits.

La Petite Aixoise offers a
diversity of complex Beer with surprising aroma combinations that literally takes us on a journey. And, thanks to its modified fermentation process, it will delight lovers of local craft beers. Clearly not to be missed.

Location: 13760 Saint-Cannat 15 minutes from Aix-en-Provence

4. The Brasserie de Salauze, like a fish in water!

The Brasserie de Salauze is located in a charming corner of Provence and often “underrated”. Indeed, it is located not far from the Etang de Berre.

This Brasserie offers a wide choice of beers with character, lively and evolving! A fully eco-responsible brewery since it cultivates its own malt and barley. In addition, it has the particularity of drawing its water which is used to make beers, from a borehole captured in an underground water table of the “Crau”.

Here are its different craft beers, they are characterized by 3 distinct groups:

•    “Sensation range”

The Sensation range is characterized by refreshing sides, but also by powerful sides (some beers are high in alcohol content). In addition, it offers an original range of associations.

•    “Hoppy Range”

The hopped beers from Brasserie Salauze are characterized by a pronounced bitterness as well as the presence of strong aromatics.

•    “Sour” Acid Range”

As its name suggests, we travel with this range of beers, in the universe of controlled acidity. Indeed, this range offers 3 different beers, but where the acidity is pronounced.

•    “Organic Range”

These have the particularity of being Ecocert certified 100% Organic Beers.
